Your recruitment area

Catchments, market share, market relevance (or market relevance) are all terms you will find in our reporting.

We define a significant geographical area as one in which you as a provider achieved a market share of over 2% of the classroom learning enrolments and 1% of the enrolments onto an apprenticeship or traineeship. We normally present averages of the previous and current years throughout all our reports to minimise any 'spikey' data issues.

Remember that market share has no connection to demographics, therefore your learner numbers may have decreased.  It is your share of the potential learners which is a much more reliable performance measure than a simple student count.  Increasing the amount of the cake you get, regardless of its size, is always the primary goal.

After we have identified every significant parliamentary constituency, these are categorised into high, medium and low relevance.  This is looking at how reliant you have been on that area to contribute to your overall learner numbers.

Market share and relevance can, therefore, look disjointed. You might have a high market share in a sparsely populated area which will most likely be of low or medium relevance to your overall learner count.
